About Vancouver Photographer Alejandra AguirreMy love of photography began more than twenty years ago. It’s not a job, it’s a passion and I enjoy every second. I choose not to focus on one particular type of photography because by being diverse I strengthen my skills and keep it fresh. People ask, what is your favorite subject and I can honestly say that whatever I am working on becomes my favorite subject. To be quite honest, I do not feel comfortable talking about myself, I prefer you look at my photographs because they speak for themselves. Over the years I have studied at Focal Point and the Photography Program at Langara College, but most importantly I have just shot a lot of pictures, because it’s the experience that makes you better. I also have extensive training in Film Directing, including intensive workshops at The Workshops in Rockport, Maine and courses at The Vancouver Film School. I bring that cinematic approach to my work in photography. When shooting people I look for that intimacy, that moment you let your guard down, the real you. When shooting other subjects I look for the intimacy in a different way, it’s in the details. I have had numerous exhibitions. Among them solo shows; such as at The Atrium at Sinclair Centre and group shows; such as an exhibition called “Us = Them”, which did thirty-city tour across Canada and a Juried group show at The Ferry Building Gallery. As well, my photographs have been published in numerous magazines, periodicals, used on websites and advertisements. I reluctantly succumbed to the digital world and surprisingly have become an advocate of digital photography. It opens up the possibilities. I can shoot black & white and colour - at the same time. I can shoot in different types of light, without having to change my film. I can shoot endlessly without having to stop and re-load. And I can see what I am getting at that moment, so I am sure it’s perfect. I can smooth out those pesky little wrinkles, open eyes, take things away, put them in, the possibilities are endless and it makes my photography that much better. I do not keep a studio as the majority of my work is done on location. I rent a studio when needed. I’m a perfectionist, which for a photographer is a valuable asset. When you hire me, I take your trust to heart; it’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly. Choose me and I guarantee you will be happy with your choice. |
